You might be looking forward to all of the holiday gatherings with family and friends but is your home holiday ready? Preparing your home for holiday guests doesn’t have to cost a lot out of pocket or take a lot of time. By focusing your efforts on the areas of your house that receive the most guest traffic you can spruce up your home and deck the halls in no time at all!
First impressions are the only impressions so make it count by dressing up your entryway and adding some curb appeal. Start by adding an inexpensive doormat. If you are feeling really ambitious try painting your front door a vibrant holiday color or even a jewel tone color that will last well into the New Year. Draping the frame of your door way with greens always creates a grand entrance. As guests make their way into your home considering adding seasonal flowers paired with pinecones on a console table or an urn filled with a variety of greens with ornaments spread throughout.
Second to your doorway your kitchen is the hub of the home and will receive a lot of traffic. If you don’t have time for a kitchen renovation and who does then simple updates like a fresh coat of paint and updated hardware can really make an impact. These minor updates coupled with festive kitchen towels, a new rug in front of your sink can make a big impact. Votive candles and fresh flowers in monochromatic tones spaced out around the kitchen give the bustling kitchen a fresh update.
Next stop after the kitchen, your powder room will most likely see the most holiday traffic. A full cleaning and decluttering will be the most cost effective benefit this room will receive. After that, adding items like new coordinating accessories like soap dispensers, hand towels, rugs and shower curtains can make a big impact. Adding seasonal artwork or a scented candle adds nice touches as well to this space in your home sure to see it’s share of guests.
If you are expecting out of town family or guests it is probably a good idea to make sure your guest rooms provide a comfortable place to stay. Start by clearing out some closet space and providing fresh laundered linens and pillows. It’s a good idea to make sure there an alternative source of light besides overhead lighting like a bedside lamp for night time reading and relaxing. Some simple and cost effective updates can include an new area rug and window treatments. Wall décor and mirrors always help to brighten up an otherwise neglected space and make it feel more inviting and cozy. And don’t forget to add some holiday touch like a vase of fresh flowers which always shows a guest that you thought of them and they are welcome.
Lastly, one of the most important congregating areas of your home is your living room. This is one of the easiest rooms to make impactful changes. Changing out accent pillows, throws and updating window treatments with seasonal patterns or bright holiday colors can make a noticeable change and can even be adapted into your décor after the holidays are over. Decorate your mantel with evergreens and display family photos throughout in seasonal frames. Small touches of ornaments throughout the greenery and placed in hurricane lanterns with candles provides a festive touch.
